Greetings,
During the last year of my undergraduate studies, I enhanced OpenBiblio (a content management system for keeping track of your collections (books, musics, etc)).
My enhancements include the ability to keep create multiple ‘libraries’ within the systems, as well as the ability to scan a barcode number from the book and search it from an existing database.
About last week, a gentlemen asked me about my amazon plugin implementation. My implementation was a slight modification of the plugin that can be found at Openbiblio’s download page. In my version,a person can search for more types of data that he/she wishes to input into his/her database. I did write experimental versions to search other Amazon locales but reason that I can’t remember did not include. I am presently waiting news from the gentlemen whether or not he can get the plugin to work. Upon receiving his confirmation, I’ll release it. I still am planning to enhance it further by expanding it’s locale (i.e. include the experimental versions of the code that I have). But that will come in due time.
In the mean time, please see the enhanced openbiblio plug in at:

The link to my IEEE paper is here (at my former Professor’s page):
I participated in the 2008 IEEE Service Computing Contest. I did quite well. I went to the finals. Woot!
Click the following link. Click here.
If you would like download my implementation on your machine. Please leave your request here. I’ll package it in an easier to use manner so that you can use it.
I would be very grateful if you could donate some money to support my development efforts. I’m starting to stand on my own feet and would appreciate some support in my endeavour (every donation allows me to pay my tuition debt even quicker).
Again, thank you very much.
Please post your questions/comments here.
Wolfram Alpha is a different kind of search engine. Instead of sending you pages containing links that has information that you want, it actually computes the answer to your question.
So if your question can be computed then you will get an answer! What kind of questions can be computed? For started, mathematical questions and questions that requires figures (i.e. What is the GDP of Malaysia? or What happened in 1984 (just by entering the date in the search field) )
Check out Wolfram Alpha.
Which is the best radio station in GTA 4 ?
I like San Juan Sounds radio station. I’m not a latin American, but the music is different to my ears. It’s very ‘hip’. I am taking my own sweet time completing the game but I do believe I will eventually complete it.
Before I end, Metal Gear Solid 4 is simply awesome, with few exceptions. I hated the lengthy story line and the last ‘mile’ walk in the radiactive chamber. Pressing the Triangle key multiple times as quickly as possible until my fingers felt like it was being ripped out of its joints was certainly no fun but the game was worth playing, even through the lengthy cut screens.
Kojima-san, I am your fan!
After what seemed like an eternity, I have finally upgraded my wordpress to the latest version.
I also made a few discoveries. Bluehost is not using SimpleScripts to manage the installation of various applications. Previously they were using Fantastico. Okay, I’m a behind, I left this wonderful blog of mine rot in the ever expanding sea called the bloggocean.
I’m back, yes, I know you’ve heard that before but I promise I’ll make more effort to write and post. On another note, I really like the new dashboard of wordpress. IT’s a far cry from what it was before. I really like it! And the automatic plugin installation tool. It’s awesome. Ok…I guess I’ve showed how behind I am in the wordpress….but I’m glad I’ve upgraded my ancient wordpress installation to the latest one.
Please support me! Please comment. This blog will continue to be my journal on the internet regarding my experiments with technology.

Before graduating these were my priorities:
- Pass all my courses.
- Pass them with flying colours!
- Get a good job
- er…dare I say it …Get a wife….Right this makes me a typical South Asian!.
- Make a lot of money!
- Discover the next ‘killer app’
- Be an Engineering/ Programming Guru!
- Have a million dollars (and a nice BMW) all before the age of 30!
Now after graduation, my priorities have shifted. It’s like being hit with a big bus called Reality. My priorities now are:
- Do well in my job
- Get Confirmed!
- Make tons of money
- Get Out of Debt!
- Discover the next killer app!
- Google (Microsoft, etc <name whatyacallitFamousCompany>) pay me millions to get their hands on my killer app.
- Get a CAR!
- Get a house
- Get into a Graduate school.
As you can see, getting a wife is now no longer in my list of priorities. It will definitely change in the next five years as some of the items will be out of the list (like Items 2 and 7). As for the other items (5 and 6), well there is no harm in trying. And even if the application that I create doesn’t bring in the dough, I’ll still be better off with all the new knowledge and experience!
So what were your priorities before and after your graduation ?
I’ve also been reading a couple of personal finance blogs. They’re breadth of coverage is very illuminating.
Happy Monday!
There are may videos about India. A cursory search in YouTube will reveal a plethora of videos. This video gives a brief introduction to India. For people who aren’t from India, I highly recommend watching BBC’s “The Story of India”. It is a wonderful documentary about India.

I’m enjoying the working world, more because that I’m finally am able to earn money and support my ownself.

Suresh
Today’s tech advice is brought to you by JSuresh.net free of charge. No matter what you do, do not I repeat do not bring home confidential files and in your USB and plug in to your laptop that is configured to share files using a P2P program. If you do, please oh please, make sure that you do not put those files into a folder that has been configured to share! An employee (a rookie) of Hong Kong’s Immigration’s authority did just that and now confidential files have been leaked. Hmm, it is not only a public relations nightmare but also a violation of trust. If government bodies can’t keep their data safely, than how can we as normal citizens trust them to secure our personal data (i.e. Identity Card number, Social insurance number, etc..etc..). Well, hopefully new measures are placed to prevent such an incident from happening.
Classified Hong Kong “watch-list” leaked on internet
HONGKONG (May 9, 2008): A government investigation was underway Friday after it was revealed that confidential files from the Immigration Department had been mistakenly leaked on to the internet.
The list, which contained a list of the names of people for officers to watch, plus travel document information and travel records, has been available on the internet since Monday through a file-sharing programme called “Foxy.”
The blunder occurred after a newly-recruited immigration officer working at the Lok Ma Chau border point took home some old classified files to study without authorisation.
His computer contained the “Foxy” programme and when he connected to the internet, the files were distributed without his knowledge.
The security blunder is the latest in a series in Hong Kong in the last week.
Earlier this week, banking giant HSBC was forced to apologise to customers after it admitted it had lost the data of 159,000 accounts from a Hong Kong branch.
The data was held on a internet server which is understood to have gong missing in April from the Kwun Tong branch of the bank while it was undergoing renovation last month.
The Hospital Authority also admitted this week to the loss of data of thousands of patients in several incidents.
In one case, a USB flashdrive containing the files of 10,000 patients from the Prince of Wales Hospital was lost after a hospital worker who was transferring the data left it in a taxi.
Lawmaker James To, the vice-chairman of the Legislative Council security panel said the immigration department security breach was by far the most serious of all three.
“This data is more private, it gives the detailed record of people’s travelling history,” he said.
Chairman of the security panel Lau Kong-wah said the leak was unforgivable.
“The data is sensitive information. Not only the Immigration Department, but all government organisations should review their data-privacy systems to prevent similar cases,” he said.
Security Secretary Abromse Lee has said the officer concerned would face disciplinary action after an investigation. — dpa
