Okay, I had another look at my stats. This time not with the wordpress plugin but the one that was provided by my host. It looks like I have indeed been getting a fair amount of visitors. This is indeed surprising to me. most of them appear to be commercial agents (I suppose bots are also labeled as ‘commercial’ agents).
I’ve not been updating this blog for quite a while. I have a lot of reasons and all of them are good!
First, I’m currently in my final semester so there’s a lot of thing that I have to do. I’m currently working on my Technical Report. It consists of 2 parts; 1st suggest a replacement data format for the Moving Vessel Profiler Data. 2nd; Create a web application that will enable Oceanographic datasets for an organization in my university to be accessible from the web. I’ve used PHP, Javascript, GoogleMap and Google Earth for this project. I learnt a lot about new technologies from the project. I hope it would enable companies to see me in a new light. I’ll post the link to the project site once it’s done. the prototype is fully functional but I would like to see how I can improve it further. I did not use ‘pure’ computer science techniques of development when I was doing this project. I suppose I should have done it at the beginning but I was in a hurry to understand all of the related technologies since I started with near zero knowledge of Web based scripting languages like PHP, Javascript and newer technologies such as GoogleMap and Google Earth.
This project has certainly taught me a lot! I’m glad that I was given the opportunity to do this. In the mean time, Please comment. I know….I want to be needed…lol….ok..jokes aside. It’s end of January so all the best for the remainder of the year!
If you were caught in some sort of error a few minutes before this post was posted, I would like to apologise for it. I updated my wordpress to 2.2.2 (using Fantastico Deluxe). I hope the experience was uneventful for you as it was for me. (Though I had a bit of a scare when I got the CPU Error coming up on me, after a browser refresh, I could access this site again! whew!)
I’ve made some changes to my blog.
I changed my theme as the previous theme did not format my post correctly.
- inserted a Translation Service. The plug-in is made available by David of Nothing to Hide. Thanks David, well done!
- inserted a newsletter subscription service that is powered by Ajax. ( by Tiago Pocinho)
- inserted Contact Form (by BloggingExpertise)
Edit:
I also inserted a statistics package called FireStats. It’s AJAX powered. After installation, a tab will be placed in your Dashboard. It has a negligible effect on your WordPress experience. Click here to download it. You’ll be directed to the main page.
It provides information such as:
One statistics package that I recommend you all to get!
Note: Click on the links to get to their site and download the plugins. You will not be disappointed!
This blog is officially in business. I’ve decided to take the plunge into hosting my own blog on a self-hosted word press. I always liked the idea of having the freedom to do what I want with wordpress. I will still keep my previous blog functioning. You can find it here.
I plan to make this blog a more ‘industrial’ blog. Thus, this blog would discuss industry related items though items concerning my interest would also be posted. I’m a Malaysian student who is currently doing his final year studies in Computer Science and Geomatics Engineering. It’s a concurrent degree program offered by University of New Brunswick, Canada. Thus I endeavour to discuss both computer science matters and geomatics engineering matters. I’m no expert, and that’s the motivation for me to start the blog (self hosted). It gives me the opportunity to play with web related technologies (important since I’m in computer science) and allow me to gain knowledge by trying something new. I would thus appreciate feedback and constructive comments (both good and bad) so that I can improve myself.
I would be starting my 5th year in Canada this September (which starts in about 2 weeks time!). It is a wonderful place. I’ve learnt alot about myself here. The people are good, and the country is beautiful, except probably the weather.
